"I want a coin sorter"

I think my wife would love converting the pile of coins on my dresser into nicely rolled bundles that can be brought to the bank!

Coin Sorter Recommendation, Price and Review

I just picked a Royal Sovereign Sort 'N Save manual coin sorter for a Christmas gift for my wife. We used it for the first time today and the whole family loved it. It was fun dumping the coins into the hopper and then slowly turning the crank and watching them sort into their correct columns.

We found that putting the wrappers directly into the quarter, nickel, dime and penny sorting tubes caused some coin misfeeds, so instead we sorted directly into the empty tubes and then slid the wrappers around the column of coins while they were still in the tubes. There is plenty of space between the coin column and the inside surface of the sorting tubes, so this was very easy and quite satisfying to do.

The manual nature of the sorting process felt good too, you could go at the pace you wanted and swish back and forth every once in a while to insure a steady feed. It was very fun to have each manual crank churn out a bunch of sorted coins. It felt like being in Vegas where every pull of the slot machine was a winner. Personally, I think it was more fulfilling than having a noisy electronic version which did all the work for us. I'm very glad we got the version we did and didn't pay a lot more for an electronic model. I don't think my family would have liked using that as much.

This version is very highly rated by Amazon users with 4.5 out of 5 stars over 141 customer reviews. It comes with some coin wrappers, but I also picked up a spare pack of wrappers (was only $11) since we had so many coins to wrap.

In the end, we had a blast processing our piles of abandoned coins. Our only regret was when we ran out of coins to sort. I must admit, I did dump a few columns of already-sorted coins back into the hopper so we could do a little more :)
