"I want a new lamp post and lantern for my home"

I need two wooden lamp posts for my driveway. I'm looking for a clean, modern design, nothing too fancy. I can install them myself.

I have 2 unique lamps that you might want

I could send you some pictures. Not sure what your willing to spend. They are old but extremely unique. Stand about 5 foot tall. 6 mini lights caged with 1 main light under the shade. Cool design for sure.

Tips on installing and wiring a lamp post

Installing a lamp post can be very easy if you are simply replacing ones that are already there. Wiring is a lot of the difficulty and if they have already been wired then you are in good shape. If not, you may be better off finding a local electrician to do that part for you.

Once the wiring is run, you will need to dig a post hole. You can rent a post hole digger at your local home improvement superstore which will make the job a lot easier. You should make the hole about 12 inches in diameter and about two feet deep. Fill the base of the hole with crushed gravel.

The wiring for the lamp post should run through a PVC conduit in the middle of the hole that you have just dug.

Mix a couple bags of concrete in a wheelbarrow and shovel the mix into the hole up to the level of the surrounding ground being careful not to allow any concrete into the top of the PVC conduit for the wiring. Use the tip of your shovel or a stick to agitate the concrete to remove air pockets and bubbles.

Next, set your new post into the concrete footing that you have just poured and pull the wires up through the bottom of the post. Working quickly while the concrete is still wet, work the post down about a foot into the footing that you have poured.

It is critically important at this point to insure that you new post is perfectly level. It will bother you for years if it is not and there will be nothing you can do to fix it once the concrete sets! Take a box beam level and check both the "front" and "side" of the post for plumb. Once satisfied with the positioning, use a few staked ropes to tie the post in place while the concrete sets.

You'd be wise to keep your eye on it for the next 3 or 4 hours to make sure it remains perfectly plumb. Remember, once the concrete sets you are stuck with the positioning until you jackhammer out the footing and start again!

Now that the hard stuff is done, all you need to do is wire the light. Make sure the power to the lamp is cut via the circuit breaker and follow the instructions included with your new lamp post to wire the light. It is a fairly simple do-it-yourself project, but if you don't do electricity, find a good local electrician to do it for you.

That's it, congratulations on your beautiful new lamp posts. They look great!
