"I want a place to stay in San Francisco to visit my dad in hospice"

My dad will be in the San Fran VA center soon and I would like to visit him from Memphis and would like a (very) inexpensive place to stay.

Hi kasykd, have you tried a San Francisco search on Airbnb yet?

This is how they describe themselves:
"Airbnb is a community marketplace for people to list, discover, and book unique spaces around the world online or from an iPhone device.

Whether the available space is a castle for a night, a sailboat for a week, or an apartment for a month, Airbnb is the easiest way for people to showcase these distinctive spaces..."

I've know about this company for a year or two now, but just recently used them when all the hotels were sold out for a wedding I had to attend.

Many small bed and breakfast establishments also use Airbnb for marketing, as well, if you are not comfortable staying in someones home or spare room.

My personal experience was 100% positive. As I said, *all* of the hotels around the wedding we attended were sold out, but I found a listing on Airbnb which was only 0.5 miles away from the reception. I put in a request on the site, communicated directly with the host via Airbnb, email and phone and had a wonderful stay.

The room I found was actually and on-again, off-again bed and breakfast that wasn't being actively marketed at the time. The woman had recently read an article in The New York Times about Airbnb and signed up, which was soopah lucky for SoopahMom!

It was a great setup, with a private entrance, private bath and eating area and cute, comfortable bedroom. It was a very nice, personalized, touch-of-home experience.

I'd recommend that you quickly check out what's available in San Fran for your trip.
