"I want a snow removal service to plow my driveway"

With all these snowstorms/blizzards hitting us - it is too much to handle to shovel on my own. I need a reliable snow plow service to remove snow from my driveway, and clear snow from my walkway. Would want the plow drivers to come early in the morning so I can get to work on time.

Finding a Snow Plow Service

A good snow removal service will not only plow or snow blow your driveway and shovel your walks before you need to go out in the morning but will also pre-treat high traffic walkways 24 hours before a storm hits to prevent ice from forming in the first place.

After the storm, and after the snow has been removed, the service should apply sand to improve traction over potentially slippery surfaces and salt to melt any ice that couldn't be plowed or shoveled away. Salt is a very effective method for melting ice, but is potentially damaging to your lawn, concrete, soil and can pollute ground water.

Ask the snow removal services you speak with about liquid de-icer as an alternative to salt. In many cases, liquid de-icer is longer lasting than salt and is safer for your plants, pets and other animals around your home.

Do a "Yankee Energy Audit"

Just read this tip in our local newspaper, "The Wellesley Townsman": while there is snow on your roof, take the opportunity to do a "Yankee Energy Audit".

See if there are bare spots which indicate heat leakage through your roof. Compare any roofing over a new addition (with newer insulation) to those areas over the older sections of your house.

Compare the snow on your roof with the snow on your neighbors' roofs (is it roofs or rooves? A quick Google search say either). Make sure and compare similarly facing roofs (i.e. look at both of your north-facing roofs).

Even though it's a pain to have to rake or remove the snow off of your roof, in this case, the more you have, the better you are energy-efficiency-wise.

Once you know your problem areas, you can get a real home energy audit to learn more details and what to do about it all.
