"I want a snowblower"

I would like a snowblower, powerful but compact. Would like to know if electric vs. gas would be better for me.

Electric vs. Gas Snow Throwers

For your small driveway (two cars wide, one car long), I think you'd be better served with an electric, corded snowblower. It will be quieter, easier to manipulate, more versatile and you won't need to store a big gas powered unit in your garage.

Gas-powered really seems like overkill for your sized driveway. With the electric, you could easily pick it up and do the pathway to your front door. You won't be able to do that with a gas snowblower.

Plus, electric blowers are a fraction of the cost of gas powered blowers. Electric will cost you around $100 to $400 where gas will cost around $400 to $1,500 (or more).

If you go electric, don't forget to pickup a 100-foot extension cord and cord reel.

comment My Toro model recommends a 14 gauge cord up to 100 feet to power the snowblower. Make sure and get a 14 or 12 gauge and not a 16 gauge. - BillF 6 years, 7 months ago

Re: I want a snowblower

I have this Toro and it does a great job. It's light, easy to store, quiet and throws the snow 15 feet with no problems.
comment It looks like there were good reviews - probably will order the same Toro. Let you know how it works. Thanks! - jheyun 6 years, 7 months ago

Comparing Electric vs. Gas Snowblowers

Broadly speaking, there are two types of snowblowers (also know as snow throwers): those that are powered by a gas engine and those that are powered by electricity.

Generally, gas snowblowers are more powerful, noisy and effective in quickly clearing large amounts of snow. Gas blowers come in single-stage which are suited for lighter jobs and two-stage which have one blade for breaking up the snow and a second dedicated to throwing it up the chute.

Electric blowers are all single-stage and will be quieter, easier to manipulate and easier to store. They typically come in 7 to 13 amp models, can come with or without a chute and can clear a 12 to 20 inch wide path.
