Re: I want a trailer hitch cover to fit a 2" hitch

Amazon has thousands of hitch covers, ranging from simple black plugs to sports teams and even one that looks like a boat propeller. You can see them all here.

This one is interesting, it turns your hitch cover into a step:
Lund 602001 Hitch Step - $30

In general, prices range from under $10 up to around $25 for the auto or team branded ones. As you are shopping, make sure that the hitch cover you get will fit in the size hitch that you have (typically either 2-inch or 1-1/4-inch)!
comment I wish I had a need for the step hitch. That's pretty cool! - mitch 9 years, 1 month ago

Boston Red Sox Hitch Cover

I wanted to get the propeller (and so did my daughter), but the reviews weren't great saying it was cheaply made out of plastic. Opted instead for this sweet Red Sox cover

It is compatible with Type II and Type III trailer hitches. I haven't installed in on my 2-inch hitch yet, but it looks very simple to do. It's quite a bit larger than I expected (over 6 inches tall) and looks to be very nice quality that should hold up to our extreme New England weather and road conditions.

NB: The hitch pin isn't included. I plan on using the one from my thule revolver bike carrier, that way I won't lose it when the carrier is stowed in the garage!
comment I've had the Red Sox hitch cover on the back of my car for a few months now. Two days ago I was stopped at a red light and a woman pulled up next to me, gave a little honk and asked where I got it. Unfortunately for her, she didn't have a trailer hitch that needed covering. Opening day today! Go Sox! - mitch 8 years, 11 months ago

How to Tell What Type Trailer Hitch You Have

Trailer hitches (also called tow hitches) come in two primary configurations: receiver type and fixed-drawbar type. Receiver-type hitches mounts directly to the frame of the car or truck and have a rear facing opening that accepts accessories like removable hitch bike racks, ball mounts and cargo carriers. Fixed-drawbar hitches are usually built as a single piece with a hole for a trailer ball. They are generally not compatible with after market hitch accessories.

Type I and Type II trailer hitches have an inside measurement of 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" while Type III and Type IV hitches have an inside measurement of 2" x 2" and Type V hitches measure 2-1/2" x 2-1/2". The towing capacity and tongue weight increases as you move from Type I hitches up to Type V hitches.
