"I want drywall and insulation contractors to fix walls after water damage"

Need to replace a whole section of wall and insulation from my home after water leak destroyed the wall from ice dams and snow on the roof. Interested in blown in insulation or maybe liquid spray foam installation after repairs to dry wall. Need a company with good quality service record that is fast and inexpensive.

Drywall and insulation contractors to fix walls after water damage

Wow, that sucks, but with all the snow, rain and ice that we've had this winter your situation is unfortunately quite common.

You drywall decision is pretty straight forward, not many choices there. Just replace it with what you had...drywall is drywall for the most part.

sprayed in cellulose insulation
Regarding your insulation decision, I have found polyurethane spray foam to be more reliable than blown-in insulation. The spray foam is made up of water, organic polymers and other agents and stick to the the wall cavity and expand to fill the space. There is also sprayed-in cellulose and even soy-based foams. They all are sprayed in wet and do an excellent job filling every nook and cranny and drying in a rigid form.

For me, a key benefit of spray foam insulation is that it is rigid, so you can be sure that it won't sag in your wall cavity after you close it up. It is also less likely to be damaged by a future water leak.

The downside is that it's harder to run cables through once it has been blown in and has set. With your typical fiberglass batt insulation, you can fairly easily snake a new electrical line through the wall without much difficultly.

Blown in insulation is good if you don't want to completely remove the wall since it can be blown in via small access holes. Since you need to replace your drywall anyways, I'd go with the higher R-value spray insulation.

comment Just a clarification: liquid foam insulation can be blown in via small holes in the wall too. - mitch 2 years, 2 months ago

Open cell vs. closed cell foam comparison

Check out this video comparing open cell foam insulation to closed cell foam insulation.

It looks delicious! Like BigBen says, God help you if you need to run additional wiring after this stuff goes in.

A commenter on the video does say, however, that open cell spray foam is not hard to run wiring through. Apparently closed cell spray foam is, though.

Liquid Spray Foam Insulation Video

Liquid spray foam isulation goes on with 1,200 lbs of pressure, comes out of the gun at 200 degree Fahrenheit and expands at a ratio of 1 to 120 which nicely fills all the gaps. It is also much easier to install in tight or awkwardly shaped space.

Find a local spray foam or blown-in insulation installation professional in your area.
