See my electric power shovel reply for more info, but don't forget to pickup a 14 or 12 gauge (not a 16 gauge) 100-foot extension cord and cord reel.

I've had this Toro snowblower (earlier model of same) for a few years. I used to have the Toro Power shovel, which was good, but since the Power Curve has wheels, it is much easier to clear my flat, not too long driveway with.

Check out the Toro 1800 in action on this guy's deck. Looks like he's clearing about 6 to 8 inches of light snow, which is about the sweet spot for this machine.

You can see how great it is a throwing the snow a long distance and how much quieter it is than a typical gas-powered snow blower.

I love that I don't need to worry about gas and oil, and I've gotten pretty good at toting the 100 foot extension cord around. It's also very lightweight and easy to store in my already cramped and cluttered garage.

Re: "I want someone to do a basement finishing"

Having gone through my own basement remodel I can offer a few experience-based tips. First, and obviously the most important unless you plan to do-it-yourself, spend the time upfront making sure that you have the right person or contractor doing the work.

Ask your friends and family if they have used and contractors that they liked. See if they completed the job on the schedule and cost that they estimated. Check that they were respectful of your household and family and that they did a quality job.

The more contractors you talk to initially, the better project cost you will get because you will have much more negotiating power if you have three or four contractors bidding for your job. For my basement renovation, we actually had four contractors give us a cost estimate. I would have been happy to use any of the four, which made negotiating price and timing that much easier.

Second, the water tightness of your basement will determine how you finish it. If you have ever had water, you may need to install a French drain, sump pump or deal with a basement waterproofing professional before starting on the remodel. For our job, we used a mold resistant carpet pad in case any water managed to get in.

Finally, if you haven't done it recently, make sure and check that the radon levels in your basement are safe. Below 2.7 pCi/L is pretty good, above 4 and you'd have to remedy it on sale of you house. We actually bought a radon gas detector that we keep plugging in at all times.

A summary of my advice:
  1. Spend a lot of time finding the right contractor

  2. Deal with any basement water issues before starting

  3. Check your radon gas levels and plan ventilation if they are high
